+The installer itself has got many bugfixes and also some cleanup work. Besides it had also the SpaceFun theme applied into it giving a uniform look and feel to the system.

+I would like to publicaly thank the whole team for this release and all the nice work we've all being able to do together. Other teams are also quite important for Debian Installer and we couldn't make all this happen without their help and contribution. They're (in non-specific order) the Release Management Team, CD Team and FTP Team.

+The show was incredible, one of the best of I had opportunity to watch and it was an amazing travel told since the 70's, when Ivan Lins has started his career. Besides the musical quality from Ivan Lins, the band was another show making it remarkable in my memories.

+It's nice to be able to count on friends across vendors. The two new Parted Team members, Joel Andres Granados Moreno and Bryn Reeves from Red Hat, has been working with me to solve the s390 error that was blocking Debian to move to latest parted release (1.8.8 up to now).
+
+They've had a hard time to identify the real problem and we helped each other for those past two weeks. That's awesome to be able to share the work load and be able to get help to solve problems. Even more when this is done for a very important software like Parted.
+
+I do believe this is the way to go for Free Software projects... maybe others could learn from that?

+It was a very long time ago since I did my last resume and never found the energy to update (or translate it to English) so I thought it was nice to have this kind of information about myself. It was nice since it gave to me a nice impressions of events I participated and like.
+
+I've decided to do my resume using LaTeX (I use it for majority of my documents) and started to browse the web to find something useful to use as basis. I ended up finding <a href="http://www.mcnabbs.org/andrew/linux/latexres/">Making a Resume in LaTeX</a> and liked the final result. I then wanted to have it in English and Portuguese and them I remembered about <a href="http://po4a.alioth.debian.org">po4a</a> that makes that task very easy :-)
+
+I ended changing Adrew's style to a class and writing a cuple of Makefiles to automate all this. All well done :-D
+
+I suggest that anyone interested on it to take a look on the <a href="http://git.debian.org/?p=users/otavio/resume.git;a=summary">GIT repository</a> and also provide tips about how to improve it.
+
+I hope it's useful to anybody else :-D

+I've get in touch with Guido and explained him some missing things I had found on git-dch (part of git-buildpackage). The most amazing thing is that he <strong>implemented</strong> them all and his code is much nicer then mine since it has been wrote using the Python extensions for the GIT.

+To reduce the duplication and make the maintainence easier, syslinux templates has been splited.
+
+Currently both normal and menu share common templates using a common directory and the required files are copied to the image during the build. The only current know regression is PXE that needs fixing to work with this new templates however the rest should just work.
+
+I'd suggest to everyone interested on <a href="http://debian-live.alioth.debian.org">Debian Live</a> do a try on it. The easier way is to use the <a href="http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/debian-live-devel/2007-October/002304.html">snapshots</a> of live-helper and use it normaly.

+Initial code has been ported and then merged by Daniel on <a href="http://git.debian.org/?p=users/daniel/live-helper.git" title="Daniel's GIT tree">his GIT tree</a> and today I went to try it and did some more changes on it that got it in a very good shape (not yet merged but available on <a href="http://git.debian.org/?p=users/otavio/live-helper.git" title="My own GIT tree">my GIT tree</a>) and I thought that would be nice to share it here so more people can try it and shout if find something is broken on it.

+Today I went to #debian-x and asked how they have been doing to update debian/changelog files and they said that they're using GIT log but updating the files by-hand so, since we're wanting to use it here at work, I've started to write up the script for it.

+After some time of hacking and some questions answered at #git, on freenode, I was able to get it working. Obviously it has to be improved (hey, send me a <strong>patch!</strong>) but it works for my tests.

+Since some time, Robert Millan has been working at a tool to make the Debian GNU/Linux installation easier for Windows users[1]. His work has been integrated on Debian Installer daily images and now on Debian-CD (tool used to produce the Debian .iso images) and hence provinding a better user experience.

It has improved a lot since it now instead loads a nice graphical application that loads the README (and uses translated versions if available) and minimize itself[3], the tool allows the user to reboot the system and use the Windows bootloader to load the installer without requiring any special knowledge from the user.

+Hoje li um <a href="http://www-03.ibm.com/developerworks/blogs/trackback/ctaurion/Weblog/um_almo%C3%A7o_regado_%C3%A0_od">artigo</a> bastante interessante falando sobre os possíveis problemas para migração de organizações de médio e grande porte para o ODF.<br  /><br  />Esse artigo me fez refletir que temos, hoje, uma posição bastante favorável para a migração já que o Microsoft Office, em suas últimas versões fez várias mudanças em sua interface de usuário (o que complica a atualização) necessitando então de um esforço de aprendizado pelo usuário deste software. Por que então não migrar para o BrOffice?<br  /><br  />O grande "bicho de sete cabeças" para migração é o medo do <u>diferente</u> e isso terá que ser enfrentado de qualquer forma.<br  /><br  />Isso agora me fez pensar no grande momento que temos hoje levando-se em conta que o Windows Vista necessita de <u>muita</u> memória, processador e praticamente exige uma atualização de hardware. O Linux no Desktop tem uma grande chance de começar a crescer muito rapidamente. Claro! Isso nos remete novamente para&nbsp; a migração ao ODF que também será impulsionado através dessa migração.<br  /><br  />Bom, penso que realmente temos vários fatores favoráveis para nós (usuários e desenvolvedores de Software Livre). Vamos "subir nesta onda" e fazer bonito pessoal :-)<br  />

+Eu acabei de mandar uma proposta de meta para o lançamento do lenny. Eu gostaria de mudar o boot-loader padrão do amd64 e i386 parao GRUB2. Isso permitiria que nos, finalmente, removêssemos o GRUB completamente.<br  /><br  />O GRUB tem patches demais e um pesadelo para manter já que o upstream setou-o como legacy e somente aceita correções para bugs. A maioria das distribuições (Debian incluso) modifica seu código para suportar funcionalidades como o splash gráfico e coisas do gênero fazendo com que a pilha de patches seja grande e difícil de manter. Contudo, o GRUB2 está sendo ativamente mantido e tem algumas funcionalidades bem legais.<br  /><br  />O novo GRUB (GRUB2) tem suporte a múltiplas arquiteturas e é altamente modular permitindo que o melhoremos enquanto continuamos a receber ajuda do upstream.<br  /><br  />Vejamos o que o Release Team tem para dizer sobre isso :-D<br  />

+I have just send a proposal for a release goal to lenny. I'd like to swtich to GRUB2 as default boot-loader for amd64 and i386. This would allow us to, finally, drop GRUB completely.
+
+GRUB has too many patches, right now, and is a maintainence hell since upstream setted it on legacy mode hence only accepting bugfixing. Major of distributions divert its code (Debian included) to support fency features like graphical splash and like what makes our patch queue too big and making difficult to maintain. However, GRUB2 is being actively maintained and has some neat features.

+The new GRUB (GRUB2) has multi-architecture support and is highly modular allowing us to improve it while continuing to receive upstream support.
+
+Let's see what the Release Team has to say about it :-D

Some are clearly not caused by this annoyance but others not.<br  /><br  />Why does our FTP Masters and NEW queue processing people are not included on that list of people that are receiving money to work? Debian Security team? Debian Installer team?<br  /><br  />Those teams has the same importance of RM team. Can we release without a propor security or lacking a Debian Installer? Of even, can we release without a good libc or a stable and well maintained GCC compiler?<br  /><br  />That "Dunk Tank" or, in my understanding, "How we workaround a project concensuos" thing, is wrong.<br  /><br  />Obs.: you don't need to agree with me and that is my point of view.<br  /><br  />

+Estou orgulhoso de enviar o novo pacote do grub2 para a unstable pois este recebeu muita colaboração do Robert Millan que foi quem portou o update-grub para o mesmo. +Hoje irá entrar na unstable a nova versão do pacote do GRUB. Esta versão tem uma nova funcionalidade muito interessante: detecção de kernels Xen.

+Até hoje, todo usuário Xen precisava alterar o arquivo menu.lst na mão para te-lo adequado para inicializar o dom0 porém isso era muito sujeito a erros. Atualmente, como qualquer outra imagem no menu.lst, você pode alterar as opções do dom0 do Xen e estas serão usadas para escrever as entradas para os kernels. Muito lindo.

+Today will hit unstable the new GRUB package version. This version has a new and very interesting feature: Xen kernel detection.
+
+Until now, every Xen user needed to change the menu.lst byhand to have it suitable to boot the dom0 and that's a very error prone way of to do that. Currently, like any other image on menu.lst, you can change the Xen dom0 kernel options and they will be use to write down the kernel entries. Very nift.
+

+Hoje fiz um novo upload do Splashy para a <em>experimental</em>. Se tudo correr bem, irei enviar um novo pacote movendo ele para <em>unstable</em>.

+Esta versão é basicamente uma versão de correção de erros. Ainda existem pequenos problemas para serem corrigidos antes que o pacote chegue na Etch mas estamos fazendo um ótimo trabalho corrigindo os problemas rapidamente e acredito que conseguiremos.
+
+Seria ótimo se algum artista pusesse pegar nosso tema para o Debian e melhorá-lo. Existem pequenos problemas para corrigir nele. No próximo upload ele será setado como padrão.

+Today I did a new upload of Splashy to <em>experimental</em>. If all goes  fine, I will upload a new package moving it to <em>unstable</em>.
+
+This version is basically a bugfixing version. There's some issues to solve before it hits Etch but we're doing a great job solving its bugs fast and I believe that we'll be able to make it.
+
+Would be great if any artist might get our current Debian theme and improve it. There's some small issues to solve there. Next upload will set it as default theme too.

+Depois de algum tempo aguardando para ter o GRUB 0.97-11 na testing nós conseguimos corrigir mais alguns problemas nele e por isso estou orgulhoso de anunciar um novo upload do mesmo.

+Essa nova versão, GRUB 0.97-12, tem algumas melhorias bem interessantes. Ele corrige problemas usando RAID e adiciona suporte a dispositivos i2c.
+
+Ele possuí urgência setada para alta devido à quebra com o mdadm. Ele chegará a testing assim que possível :)

+After some time waiting to have GRUB 0.97-11 in testing we've managed to solve some more bugs on it and then I'm pleased to announce a new upload of it.

+This new version, 0.97-12, has some nice improvements. It solves problems for people using RAID and adds support to i2o devices.
+
+It has the urgency set to high due the mdadm breakage. It'll hit testing as soon as possible :-D

+Bom, depois do último release do LTSP para o Debian, preparei mais algumas melhorias para ele que estavam sendo finalizadas e elas agora fazem parte do novo release que foi enviado para unstable. Os melhorias nesse release são:

+	<li>Correção de problema ao suporte ao unionfs quando rodado no initramfs;</li>
+	<li>Remoção do código que tratava da instalação em kernels mais antigos que 2.6.15 já que já temos o 2.6.16 na testing;</li>
+	<li>Melhorado código de configuração do initramfs e melhor documentado os motivos dos "workarounds";</li>
+	<li>Alterado código de detecção de arquitetura para não ser dependente do Debian;</li>
+	<li>Suporte a tradução,</li>
+	<li>Suporte ao novo initramfs-tools que foi enviado para o sid hoje.</li>
+</ul>

+Adicionei ao Debian Installer suporte a detecção do metodo de boot utilizado para inicialização dos computadores da Apple baseados em processadores Intel. Dessa forma, usuários que atualizarem o firmware da máquina e usarem a BIOS do Basecamp para boot irão ter o GRUB usado como padrão, caso contrário o sistema usará o eLILO que atualmente é a única opção estável para quem usa EFI para boot.

+Depois de um longo tempo de desenvolvimento o time do Splashy, de qual faço parte, lançou o novo release. Esse release melhora e muito o sistema e abaixo cito algumas das melhorias:

+	<li>validação do formato dos temas;</li>
+	<li>validador do formato dos temas;</li>
+	<li>efeitos de fade-in e fade-out;</li>
+	<li>suporte inicial a initramfs (experimental e desabilitado por padrão);</li>
+	<li>melhor sistema de construção</li>
+</ul>
+Álem disso o sistema teve seu código muito melhorado e as próximas versões devem ser lançadas com mais frequencia. O Debian já tem o pacote enviado e deverá estar disponível para uso na ''experimental'' amanha.
